Herringbone floors, for an intricate and timeless look

Herringbone is the hardwood floor pattern of choice for those who want an elevated look with a classic heritage.  This method of oak flooring finish relies on rectangular planks laid in a staggered overlapping zig zag pattern.  This pattern has been symbolising elegance since the 16th century, and it still retains its popularity with modern designers.

Herringbone vs Chevron – what is the difference?

Chevron floors use a distinctive ‘V’ pattern that does not overlap and can be very striking from a distance. By contrast Herringbone is a more subtle, traditional look which is less dominant on the overall room design. We find that Chevron floors are more popular on the continent with the Herringbone pattern being dominant within the U.K.

Herringbone plank width; an important choice

Battern size is particularly important when using the Herringbone design. A smaller batten can create a more classical, vintage feel to a room whilst a wider plank can create a contemporary feeling of space and newness.
